Introduction to X2B – Overview of functions

2 min read

X2B is a powerful visualization and control software for building and home automation. The software runs on dedicated hardware and enables the integration, control and automation of systems such as KNX, BACnet, Modbus, LoRa, Philips Hue and Sonos.

The X2B platform combines various communication protocols and enables uniform operation and automation of devices in a building. It is suitable for both private smart homes and complex commercial building automation systems.

Main functions of X2B #

1. interfaces – integration of systems #

X2B can communicate with various automation systems:
โœ” KNX (incl. KNX-IP, KNX TP, KNX-RF & KNX-PL)
โœ” Modbus (TCP )
โœ” BACnet/IP
โœ” LoRa & LoRaWAN via TTN
โœ” HTTP & MQTT for IoT devices
โœ” Philips Hue, Sonos, Netatmo & other Smarthome devices

These interfaces make it possible to manage sensors, actuators and other systems centrally.

2. channels – manage data points #

A channel is a single data point (e.g. temperature, light status or switch status).

  • Reading & writing values
  • Linking different systems
  • Logging & visualization of sensor data

Thanks to the flexible channel structure, data points from different systems can be easily combined with each other.

3. controls – create control elements #

User-defined control elements can be created with Controls.
Examples:
โœ” Combine light switches for KNX & Hue
โœ” Temperature control with Modbus sensors
โœ” Control Sonos speakers

… and many more

Special:

  • Gateway control connects data points from different systems
  • Logic control for individual automation

4. visualization & dashboards #

X2B enables a customized user interface with:
โœ” Buttons & sliders
โœ” Diagrams & graphs for sensor data
โœ” Interactive dashboards for different users

Visualization can be carried out via web browser or remote access.

5. automations & scenes #

You can create your own rules with Triggers & Actions.
Examples:

  • When window open โ†’ Heating off
  • Motion detected โ†’ Light on (at night)
  • Temperature < 18ยฐC โ†’ Turn up the heating

Automations can be time-controlled, sensor-based or manually activated.

6. user & rights management #

โœ” Multiple users with individual authorizations
โœ” Groups for filtered access
โœ” Guest mode for restricted use

7. remote access & remote access #

X2B can be accessed securely via the Internet:
โœ” Local IP address (LAN access)
โœ” Remote URL (https://<ID>.x2.energy )
โœ” Port releases for KNX, Modbus & web interfaces

With the X2B Remote Access software, local network devices can be controlled worldwide, e.g. for ETS remote access to KNX IP interfaces.
